Introduction

Badminton

Badminton is a racquet sport played by two or four players in a rectangular court with a small, high net. Players must use their racquets to strike a shuttlecock across the net into the opponents’ half of the court. The shuttlecock has an cork base and celluloid covering with 20 goose feathers embedded in it (16 for singles, 18 for doubles).

The basic object of badminton is to hit the shuttlecock over the net so that it lands in your opponent’s half of the court. Points are scored when one side fails to return the shuttlecock within three hits of their opponent’s serve or if they fail to hit it overhand into their opponent’s side of play without first touching any part of their own body; this is called a “fault”. A fault may also be called if both sides hit at once (known as “double hitting”), which results in both players getting back position again without scoring any points. Sepak takraw is a traditional sport in Southeast Asia. It is played with a rattan ball and footwork, and can be played on an indoor or outdoor badminton court. The game originated in Thailand, but has since spread across Southeast Asia–and even further!

Korfball

Korfball is a ball sport played by two teams of 8 players with 4 balls. It is played on a rectangular court with a basket in the middle of each end. The objective is to score points by throwing a ball through a bottomless basket that is mounted 3 meters above the ground.

Korfball was invented in 1902 by Nico Broekhuysen, who had been inspired by basketball and tennis. The name korfball means “basket ball” in Dutch; it’s also sometimes known as “Dutch Handball”.

Silat

Silat is a martial art that originated in Indonesia. It’s popular in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, where it’s practiced not only as a sport but also for self-defense purposes. Silat has been included in the Asian Games since 1990 and has grown to become one of the most well known Indonesian sports abroad.

The word “silat” means “to fight” or “combat”. This martial art uses weapons like short sticks called canes (known as dilengkung) and knives (golok).
